Cromer is a stunning seaside town, high on a cliff top, towering above the Norfolk coast. There are great days out to be had whether you are there for the day or for the whole of your holiday. With golden sands, surfing, museums, zoos, stately homes and gardens, you will not be stuck for ideas of what to do! Take a look at five of our favourite attractions in the area.
1. Cromer Pier and Esplanade
The Cromer Pier has been there since 1391, although since its original erection it has had several refurbishments. The views from the pier are spectacular, the Norfolk coast and ocean beyond provide a backdrop that you could imagine seeing on a film set, and if you’re are lucky, you may witness the sun sinking below the water. One of the more unusual places for a theatre is the pier; the Cromer Pier Pavillion Theatre can be found on the end, boasting an intimate auditorium with just 500 seats, whatever you see there and where ever you sit, you will feel part of the action. There is a fantastic program of shows from comedy, tribute bands, opera, dance and community amateur drama shows. The esplanade adjacent to the pier offers a flat walk, where you can also admire the glorious scenery around you.
2. Felbrigg Hall
Step back in time and spend an enjoyable day at Felbrigg Hall. Whether you go to explore the grand house or you’d prefer to spend the day wandering around the 500 acres, there is something for everyone. The hall receives continual refurbishment and maintenance to conserve its glory. The behind the scenes team lovingly clean and restore items from the hall so that what you see, is the best it can be, taking time and consideration to match the original decoration and methods of the stately hall. There are hand painted wallpapers, books dating from 1509 and a range of antique furniture. Outside there is a walled garden, an orangery, a rose garden and an impressive variety of flora – your holiday is the perfect opportunity to truly take the time to smell the flowers. With so much to see you may consider looking at one of our holiday homes for sale, Norfolk coast so you can return year after year.
3. Weavers’ Way
There is no better way to make yourself feel alive than a walk in the fresh, sea air while enjoying spectacular views. The Norfolk Coastal Path provides panoramic views of the ocean, wildlife spotting and the chance to get out in nature. Join the path at Cromer and head west towards Hunstanton. You can walk as far or as little as you feel you are up to on the day. You will come back feeling refreshed and energised.
4. Amazona Zoo
Amazona Zoo opened to the public in 2008 and has achieved a great deal since then. It is now home to an array of incredible animals from all over the world, but mainly from South America. Spend the day discovering species that are new to you, learn about them, see them and create memories of your day to be treasured for years to come. There are flamingos, monkeys, big cats, various birds and much more. Why not go along to one of the feeding sessions for an even better view? There is an indoor and outdoor play area for any little ones you may have with you! If you get peckish, there is an onsite café serving delicious lunches and drinks.
5. Muckleburgh Collection
The military museum is a unique attraction, and it's the difference that makes it what it is! Even if you don’t think it’ll be your type of thing, you will be pleasantly surprised when you arrive. It is one of the largest privately owned military collections in the UK. With tanks, guns, vehicles and anti-aircraft from all corners of the globe. Most of the collection you will see are all still in full working order. Your day there will be spent learning about historical events, when the machinery was used and where. There is also an ever changing calendar of events, from magic shows, science workshops and bands.
