May means summer is on the way and is the perfect time to enjoy the longer, brighter days and sunnier weather at your holiday home. Here’s 5 reasons why May means making the most of it.

1. May is full of things to do in Suffolk

It’s not alone in this, but Suffolk really knows how to make the most of May. For starters there’s The Festival of Suffolk 2022, starting in May and runs until September. Mixing local celebrations with national events, including of course the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Festival brings the whole county together in a joyous programme of happenings.

There will be more tree planting in Suffolk in May that’s for sure. The ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’, a project launched by Her Majesty and The Prince of Wales, plans to plant 775,000 trees in Suffolk to mark the Jubilee. They’ve hit 240,000 so far! It’s a wonderful idea and will make Suffolk a beautiful place for a holiday home for years to come.

Style and sport come together in the Festival of Suffolk Race Day on May 14. If the glamour of the horse racing world is your thing then this its the place to be.

And of course the end of May sees the opening of the Suffolk Show. It’s the perfect place to celebrate all things Suffolk.

2. May is a great time to head to Mablethorpe

Lincolnshire is lovely in May. It’s the sort of coastline and countryside that comes alive with spring and the promise of summer. It’s certainly a lively place to be. May 6 this year sees the return of the popular Mablethorpe Continental Street Market. Enjoy street food and artisan treats at what promises to be a great weekend.

A holiday home in Lincolnshire, Mablethorpe holiday homes in particular, are proving more popular than ever. Ideally placed to enjoy this lovely part of the UK and easily accessible from all over the country, chalets in Mablethorpe make brilliant holiday homes - in May or any time.

3. May is for indulging on all your favourite seaside treats

We may be cheating a bit. Because this could be, strictly speaking, not be an actual thing in the UK. But, May 6 is recognised as ‘International No Diet Day’.

So, you’re at your brand new lodge in Norfolk, or you’re enjoying golf courses near Great Yarmouth. You’re surrounded by all the local food and delicacies; or maybe it’s just because you’re at the seaside you really fancy fish and chips, or ice cream. Enjoy no Diet Day by the coast and add an extra side or throw in that additional topping. Make the most of May!

4. May is made for relaxing on your caravan holiday. It’s official.

Well, sort of official; more of a superstition actually. Folklore has it that you should not buy a broom nor wash blankets in May. What clearer command could you have that May is the time for making the most of your time at your own UK holiday home? It’s time to chill and ignore the chores, to kick back and take a break. May is a lovely time to do just that.

Spring is springing and life looks brighter. It’s known now that in the old nursery rhyme ‘Here we go gathering nuts in May…’ the reference to ‘nuts’ is actually a corruption of ‘knots’ which meant bunches of flowers. Because May is when the flowers come back, bringing the colours we miss so much in winter. There is one other thing from the superstitions and legends about May. It’s said that you shouldn’t marry in May. ‘Marry in May and you’ll rue the day’ is how the saying goes. Just leave it then. Take some time off and head for your own UK holiday home. Best not risk it. But if it’s planned - don’t worry, it will be fine. It’s just a saying, that’s all…

5. May is time to enjoy life with your pets, with a smile on your face

May just keeps on giving when it comes to thinking about going away. We now have what are referred to as ‘month long observances’ and May has two of them. In the UK, May is ‘National Pet Month’ and  ‘National Smile Month’. Now what two better, happier, things could there be about any month?

Searching for somone to look after your pups while you’re away, or finding pet-friendly accommodation is just added stress to planning a holiday. Having your own holiday home means you can take your pets along too! Take the dog for a long seaside walk or a wander through the woods and get to know the area around your UK holiday home. Or, just stretch out on your holiday home’s decking and relax. But whatever you do, just smile!

And why wouldn’t you? With your own UK holiday home you can take time out without stressing out. Life is lightening up compared to a couple of years ago, but international travel is not looking set to get less fractious any time soon. And even if you’re not planning on flying, your cost of living is soaring. Managing your finances has never needed more scrutiny. Maybe now is the time to think about buying your own UK holiday home and making an investment that probably makes more sense, and more return, than a bank account.

It’s an investment in more than a purely financial sense too. This is about shaping a lifestyle change; about planning you and your family’s holiday time for years into the future. And, of course, it’s an investment in the planet’s future too. Less air miles makes for greener getaways.

Make this May the time you start thinking differently about holidays. Make it the time to think about owning your own UK holiday home.
